The Icehotel project in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, is featured on Dezeen, a leading international platform dedicated to design and architecture.
The publication presents a unique collaboration bringing together ten international lighting designers invited to conceive a lighting master plan for the hotel—an unprecedented initiative—and to implement it directly on site. The scope includes both interior and exterior lighting, excluding the suites, which are designed by other international artists.
Organized by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the project explores the relationship between light, frozen matter, and the Arctic landscape. It highlights the ephemeral nature of an architecture that is rebuilt each year from snow and ice.
The invited lighting designers are Marie-Ikram Bouhlel, Monica Popesco, Caroline Moberg, Zoi Tsianto, Jorg Frank Seemann, Petros Dermatas, Isabel Villar, Vanessa Orozco, Basar Erdner, and Pedro Ek Lopez.
The feature emphasizes a lighting approach in which light engages with ice and space, shaping immersive environments defined by reflection, shadow, and natural variation.
