Location: Ahmedabad, India
From March 25 to 27, 2011, Marie-Ikram Bouhlel co-led a guerrilla lighting workshop with students from the National Institute of Design (NID), based in Paldi, Ahmedabad.
The workshop took place on the heritage site of Sarkhej Roza, located approximately 8 km southwest of Ahmedabad. This historic and spiritual complex provided a unique setting for exploring the relationship between light, architecture, and perception.
Conceived as an intensive, hands-on workshop, the programme invited participants to work with temporary lighting installations and deliberately minimal means, encouraging observation, testing, and direct engagement with the site.
Students were encouraged to develop an experimental approach to lighting, combining in situ exploration, collective work, and practical implementation, within a pedagogical framework focused on learning through practice.
