Luminous Tricolor Belt
A Nocturnal Identity for the surroundings of Paris Town Halls
In the search for an elegant and distinctive nighttime identity for Paris, this project begins by focusing on the “houses of citizens”, the city halls of each arrondissement. At the heart of civic life, these buildings become the first landmarks of a shared nocturnal narrative, strengthening the bond between institutions and the Parisians they serve.
Inspired by the unique role of these Haussmannian and Louis XIII architectures, both urban emblems and civic beacons, the lighting concept proposes a renewed aesthetic for Paris at night. It stands as a direct expression of Atelier dada’s original vision, where light acts as a language of cohesion and recognition.
The first exclusive luminaire embodies the idea of a luminous Ariadne’s thread. It traces a path linking the city halls together, uniting them through a tricolor emblem of light, a luminous counterpart to the sash worn by elected officials. This sign wraps the façades at a human scale, at the “waist” of the buildings, whether Haussmannian or Louis XIII in style, granting them a clear and legible nocturnal presence.
This luminous marker distinguishes each city hall while inscribing them within a shared urban continuity. It enhances their architectural heritage and affirms their symbolic role, offering a poetic and contemporary expression of citizenship within the Parisian landscape.
A second exclusive luminaire, to be revealed at a later stage, will complete this vision. It will extend this tribute to civic spirit and to the richness of Paris’s architectural heritage, opening a new chapter in the construction of a collective nighttime identity.
