The Cyborg
Mondeal Square: A Living Façade Celebrating Light and Culture
Designed by Blocher Blocher Architects for the developer HN Safal, Mondeal Square is defined by its elliptical forms wrapped in aluminum sun-breakers. Rather than treating the façade as a static surface, Atelier dada envisioned the building as a sensitive, almost cyborg-like entity, capable of interacting with passersby and occupants alike.
Integrated media light lines embedded within the sun-breakers animate the architecture after nightfall. Each hour, new lighting scenes unfold, giving the façade a temporal rhythm and a changing presence. On weekends and festive days, the animations draw inspiration from local cultural traditions, transforming the building into a vibrant visual celebration that resonates with its surroundings.
Through this approach, the façade becomes expressive and responsive, shifting from an architectural envelope to a communicative surface. Light allows the building to engage with time, culture and movement, establishing Mondeal Square as a recognizable and memorable nighttime landmark.
