The Cyborg
Mondeal Square: A Living Façade Celebrating Light and Culture
Designed by Blocher Blocher Architects for the developer HN Safal, the mixed-use twin towers project Mondeal Square stands out through its elliptical forms wrapped in aluminium brise-soleil. Rather than considering the façade as a fixed surface, Atelier dada imagined the building as a sensitive entity, almost cyborg-like, capable of entering into interaction with passers-by as well as with its users.
Lines of media light, integrated into the core of the brise-soleil, animate the architecture at dusk. Every hour, new luminous scenes unfold, giving the façade its own rhythm and a constantly evolving presence. On weekends and festive days, the animations draw from local cultural traditions, transforming the building into a vibrant and shared visual celebration.
Through this luminous writing, the façade becomes expressive and reactive, shifting from an architectural envelope to a communicative surface. Light thus enables the building to enter into dialogue with time, culture, and movement, making Mondeal Square a recognisable and memorable nocturnal landmark.
