Breathing new life into the classics
Lighting Design of the NP Villa
In Vidyanagar, the NP Villa stands as an homage to architects Mario Botta and Le Corbusier, iconic figures who have left a lasting influence in India. Constructed with refractory brick and raw concrete, this residence embodies a minimalist aesthetic and raw authenticity, beautifully highlighted through the lighting design envisioned by Atelier Dada.
For the exterior lighting, which embraces a vast kitchen garden, we adopted a restrained approach. Only the key elements and passageways are subtly illuminated with velums and low lighting levels, leaving the rest of the garden in restful darkness. This interplay of light and shadow preserves the natural tranquility of the space, offering residents a soft, environmentally respectful luminous experience.
Inside, the lighting design pays tribute to local heritage. Bronze and blown glass fixtures by Studio Avni combine vernacular materials with contemporary design, creating a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Each fixture was carefully selected to suit the function of each space, and some were customized to maximize their luminous effects, making them both functional and decorative. These fixtures add a unique dimension to this modern residence, now imbued with a local authenticity that is both enriching and calming for its occupants.
