My childhood GABLES

Luminous Tales along the Railways Tracks in Paris

Public spaceEvents

Client: Municipality of 18ème district, City of Paris

Status: Energising

Location: Paris, France

Year: 2023

At the gateway to Paris, the city becomes a story, and light reveals its forgotten chapters.

This project signed by Atelier dada aims to illuminate blind gable walls along the SNCF railway lines at the entrance to Paris, in the 18th arrondissement, transforming them into large-scale street art inspired by French folk tales. These oral stories, which shaped our childhood imagination, are reinterpreted through a contemporary medium, allowing them to live on within today’s urban landscape.
Light adds an additional layer of meaning to the artworks, enhancing their depth, nighttime presence and symbolic resonance. It strengthens their visibility and emotional impact, anchoring them in collective memory and creating a sensitive connection with residents and passersby.
The project is conceived as part of a broader vision extending across Parisian railway corridors, each associated with a narrative universe: La Fontaine’s fables in the North, those of Günter Poli in the East, European fairy tales in the West, and Greco-Roman mythology in the South. This poetic mapping plays with perception, shaped by modes of travel, speed and time of day.
Through luminous and metaphorical images, the gable walls form a strong visual identity that deepens our relationship with the city, its values and its communities. Created by local artists, the works highlight the creative talents of the 18th arrondissement and contribute to a shared reimagining of the urban space.
